Housing plan for former club site

-

The site of a former Glenrothes social club could be transformed into a housing scheme, new plans have revealed.

Developers are seeking to construct 12 properties on the site of the Royal British Legion Club in Cos Lane.

The site has been dormant since the club closed its doors two years ago due to falling numbers.

The building itself has since been demolished and developer Quale Homes is now seeking to construct 12 affordable cottage flats.

The firm had originally intended to construct semidetached houses at the location. However, a letter to council planners states it now wishes to construct flats instead.

The area in Woodside has become increasingly popular in recent years, with a major housing scheme at Woodlea Grove and the redevelopment of the former Esso filling station into a supermarket.

The Glenrothes branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland closed its doors in 2015.

Members had called for support from the public to help form a new committee having experienced dwindling membership. The club also found itself squeezed financially by the recession, with fewer people using its function suite for private parties.

Despite attempts to form a new committee, efforts were eventually abandoned and the club closed in June of that year, ending its 50-year association with the town.
