Pacha hails Stars display despite defeat in Glasgow

-

Dundee Stars head coach Omar Pacha rued a lack of clinical finishing as his side’s recent run of good form was ended by Braehead Clan on Saturday.

Strikes from Malcolm Gould and Riley Stadel weren’t enough to see off the Glasgow side as Stars crashed to a 3-2 defeat.

The result left Stars – who had beaten Cardiff Devils and Belfast Giants in the space of four days – second bottom of the Elite League and though Pacha was disappointed by the result he praised the performance of his players.

He said: “It was a close game that could have went either way and maybe on a different night we get the two points but I thought we played well and created chances but not enough to get it in the back of the net.

“We started strong and got some good opportunities around the net but the puck couldn’t find our sticks on the rebounds.

“The results against Belfast and Cardiff were immense but we wanted to end it in a good way so it was disappointing to lose.”

Dundee had welcomed back Joey De Concilys after his short injury break as they looked to climb above Clan in the league standings.

Brian Hart came close early on for the visitors before Travis Fullerton prevented the hosts taking the opening goal by denying Ryan Potulny’s slapshot.

However, Dundee broke the deadlock as Gould’s shot found the net after six minutes.

Tyler Shattock levelled three minutes later after a powerplay only for Pacha’s men to regain the lead after MarcOlivier Mimar stole the puck from a Braehead defenceman to set up Stadel to knock home.

Dundee were firing shot after shot early in the second period but Mike Embach levelled and Tyler Scofield added a third before the second period was over.

Stars pressed in the final period but were unable to break down a resolute Clan rearguard.

Fife Flyers lost 6-1 away to league new boys Guildford Flames last night, with Shayne Stockton grabbing the consolation goal.

It came 24 hours after Fife emerged victors in a thrilling 8-6 win away to Cardiff Devils.
