Broughty let points slip

Super league: Fed have to settle for a draw after leading 3-1

- Mark Johnston

Broughty Athletic manager Jim Finlayson will doubtless see the draw at Bo’ness United as two points dropped rather than a point gained as his side led 3-1 at the break.

Struggling Bo’ness took the lead after just five minutes through Marc Kelly. That goal stung the Broughty men in to action and they were level within two minutes through a Graham Hay header.

The visitors took the lead on the halfhour through Brian Clark and Kevin Milne made it 3-1 just before the break.

However, the home side pulled a goal back five minutes into the second half through veteran defender Stuart Hunter and, five minutes before time, equalised through Hunter. The Fed had Ryan Blair sent off after two yellow cards.

Carnoustie couldn’t build on last week’s impressive fightback at Broxburn Athletic as they went down 4-0 at home to Dundonald Bluebell. The Gowfers were unlucky to go in at the break trailing to a Colin Wilson header but an error-strewn second half saw Craig Wedderburn double Bluebell’s advantage on the hour before Archie Campbell made it 3-0 10 minutes later. Junior Scotland international Lewis McKenzie hit the fourth on 80 minutes.

Daryl McKenzie’s Forfar West End were surprise winners against Lochee United as they earned their first points at home this season.

Scott McComiskie put the visitors in front after just three minutes but West End levelled on the quarter-hour through Andy Walls. Mark Percy came back to haunt his former club with the winner after an hour.

Jeanfield Swifts and Broxburn both failed to find the net at Riverside Stadium in a disappointing 0-0 draw

Kennoway Star Hearts are now just a point off the bottom following West End’s win and their own 2-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Sauchie at Treaton Park. Kennoway’s goal came from the reliable Matthew Gay but it was nothing more than a consolation.

Hill of Beath warmed up for next weekend’s Scottish Junior Cup tie against Auchinleck Talbot with an impressive 4-2 win at Newtongrange Star.

Lewis Elder put Kevin Fotheringham’s side in front after 15 minutes but two goals in four minutes midway through the first half, from Stephen Scott and Ryan Porteous, saw the Lothian side lead at half-time.

The Fifers were level within a minute of the restart when Elder scored from the spot after Daniel Watt had been brought down.

Lee Reid put Haws in front on 51 minutes and, just before the hour mark, Lea Schiavone made it four to complete a great win.
