Downfield battle back to deny 10 men

-

Downfield had to come from 2-0 down at home to 10-man Arniston to take a point.

The visitors had Darren McLennan sent off on the half-hour but took the lead on the stroke of half-time courtesy of a Scott Devlin rocket.

The Edinburgh side had a chance to make it 2-0 just after the break but Darren Clarkson saved Liam McIntosh’s penalty kick. However, from the corner that followed, the Arniston man made up for it as he poked the ball home.

The Spiders pulled a goal back on 51 minutes through a Ryan Winter cross shot and four minutes later Ross Gallagher levelled things up. Bryan Duell had a chance to win the game for Downfield but put his shot over the bar.

Glenrothes took the lead at home to Dalkeith Thistle but then had to come from behind to take a very late point. Chris Lornie put Glens in front on 23 minutes but the visitors levelled just before half-time.

A mix up in the Glens defence saw Thistle take the lead early in the second half and, despite several chances, it wasn’t until the last minute that Gavin Moffat headed the Fifers level.

St Andrews United closed the gap on the leaders, taking three points and the bragging rights from their derby at Tayport after winning 3-2.

Tayport took an early lead through former Saint Gary Sutherland but Scott Lawrie levelled things up on 25 minutes.

Two minutes later, Saints went in front as Lawrie got his second goal and the striker completed his hat-trick five minutes into the second half.

The visitors looked comfortable until Gregor Anderson scored a second for Port with 10 minutes left but Craig Morrison’s side held out for the win

Thornton Hibs shared six goals with visitors Haddington at Memorial Park.

Haddington took the lead on seven minutes through an Andy Jones penalty but Hibs were level within 60 seconds through Chris Ireland.

Max Coleman then put the home side in front and they led at half- time.

Jones equalised on 54 minutes but Garry Thomson restored the lead for the Fifers. However, the Hi-Hi came back and pinched a point with an equaliser from Declan Jones on 72 minutes.

Whitburn earned a vital three points against strugglers Kirriemuir Thistle with a 4-0 win in the Lothians.
