Bid to solve primary school parking problems deferred
A decision on extending parking regulations near a Dunfermline primary school has been deferred to enable councillors to quiz officers on the way forward.
Fife Council is suggesting waiting restrictions be expanded around Carnegie Primary School to ensure the safety of youngsters.
Members of the City of Dunfermline area committee heard originally only 10 metres into the junction of Kellock Avenue was covered by double yellow lines.
This was because the street was unadopted and the estate was still being developed.
Now the school’s travel plan is being updated in the wake of the school’s expansion and the undertaking of a route safety audit.
The audit drew to attention the fact parents are using Kellock Avenue to park while dropping their youngsters off and picking them up from school.
Officials believe they are parking too close to the junctions with Pittsburgh Road and McBaith Way, causing frustration for residents and endangering the safety of pupils walking to school.
With that in mind, Ken Gourlay, head of assets, transportation and environment, said council officials have proposed to extend the double yellows further into Kellock Avenue to curb the problem.
A decision was to have been taken, but implementation of new measures has been postponed to the next committee meeting when a transportation officer will attend and answer questions.
The cost to formally promote the traffic regulation order and deliver traffic management works will be approximately £2,000.
