Pacha hopes to be fit for weekend action

Omar Pacha hopes to be back playing in time for this weekend’s double-header.

Dundee Stars’ player/coach and general manager suffered an upper body injury in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Braehead Clan.

The Canadian was yesterday resting and getting on with paperwork.

Stars entertain Guildford Flames on Saturday (7pm), a side that whipped Fife Flyers 6-1 in England on Sunday.

Pacha’s men visit Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday (6pm), also in the Elite League.

Edinburgh ended a 13-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over Coventry Blaze at Murrayfield on Sunday.

Pacha’s men are on 13 points from 16 starts.

And the Tayside team are also in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.

Pacha said: “Hopefully, we can weather the injury storm and still stay with the pack and we are only four points out of a play-off spot.”

Meanwhile, Fife Flyers could face a backlash from wounded Cardiff Devils when the pair square-up at Fife Ice Arena on Saturday (face-off 7.15pm).

The Scots roared back from 5-1 down to defeat the Welsh combine 8-6 on Saturday in one of the best comebacks in the Elite League.

Danick Gauthier earned a reward for driving to the net, scoring four goals in one of the biggest shocks of the season so far.

The 6-1 defeat at Guildford Flames on Sunday was a disappointment, according to Jeff Hutchins, Fife’s assistant coach.

But the former Great Britain international conceded the effort from Saturday’s astonishing turnaround could have taken its toll on the Kirkcaldy club.

Hutchins said: “We dug ourselves a hole and dug ourselves out of it and we executed on the power play, claiming six of our goals in 10 power plays.

“So, our special teams delivered and we have been stressing the need to go to the net and Danick was rewarded for doing that,” he added.
