Fotheringham coup for Bollan

-

Cowdenbeath manager Gary Bollan has completed a transfer coup by bringing in the experienced Mark Fotheringham in a playing and assistant manager role.

The 34-year-old can count Celtic, Dundee, Norwich City, Dundee United, Anorthosis Famagusta, Ross County and Fulham among his former clubs and has joined the Blue Brazil after a coaching stint at German Second Division club Karlsruher SC.

Fotheringham, who has also played for German side Freiburg and Swiss outfit FC Aarau as well as Notts County, worked with recently appointed Bollan when he was the manager of Livingston in 2012.

Bollan – who hinted last week that he had a signing of an experienced player in the pipeline – has now completed the move, with Fotheringham signing before Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Annan.

A slight knock could delay the midfielder’s debut, but Bollan is hoping he will be available for Saturday’s game with fellow strugglers Edinburgh City.

The Central Park boss said: “We do not have a lot of players who have played a lot of games so Mark adds a lot to the squad.”

The Fife side have also added Blair Malcolm on loan from Ross County and given a trialist chance to ex-Hamilton Accies striker Connor Scullion.

Bollan said: “It was good to freshen things up at the weekend and give everyone at the club something to think about.”
