Fotheringham certain Bollan up to challenge
EDINBURGH CITY 0 COWDENBEATH 0
New assistant boss Mark “Fozzie” Fotheringham is convinced recently-appointed manager Gary Bollan can steer bottom of the table Cowdenbeath away from the League Two relegation zone.
Saturday’s goalless stalemate at Ainslie Park was Bollan’s second draw since succeeding Billy Brown, but considering the previous seven games had been lost, the new man has already made a difference.
The Blue Brazil remain a point behind City and four behind Clyde at the foot of the table, but Fotheringham said: “Gary Bollan’s record speaks for itself – he’s a winner with a track record of getting teams promoted.
“It’s a big challenge for him, but we want to work with the young boys at the club and improve them and get us up that table.”
Having recently coached at German Division Two side Karlsruhe, 34-year-old Fotheringham is registered as a player.
On Saturday he was booked after berating the officials from his seat in the dugout.
“It was a very competitive game and the lads gave us absolutely everything,” he said.
Cammy Muirhead’s angled drive and trialist Connor Scullion’s cheeky back-heel threatened the home goal in the first half, while substitute Fraser Mann almost scored in the second with a longrange free-kick.
Visiting keeper David McGurn pulled off outstanding saves to deny left-back Chris McKee and skipper Josh Walker.
City boss James McDonagh claimed: “We were the better team in the first half and we were disappointed not to be ahead at half-time but the second half was more even.”
