Insight into world of healthcare
More than 70 S2 pupils from schools across Fife received an insight into the work of allied health professionals (AHP) during a visit to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
NHS Fife staff from dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, prosthetics, orthotics, radiography and speech and language therapy were on hand to explain their roles and provide a flavour of life as a health worker.
Paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service and staff from art and music therapy were also involved.
Pupils were introduced to each profession, learning more about the work involved, before selecting three health workers to spend more time with.
Fun, practical elements were included to give youngsters hands-on experience with equipment and assessments.
Margaret Braid, AHP practice education lead, said: “We’re delighted to have welcomed so many pupils from around Fife and hope that they found the event both interesting and informative.
“The allied health professions encompass many areas and a variety of different roles, each making a difference to the lives of patients.
“We know that second year pupils will be starting to think about choosing their subjects and many may not have heard of the allied health professions.
“We hope that having this opportunity to explore roles further may inspire some to consider a career in healthcare.”
