Dons striker keen to pile pressure on Rangers

Aberdeen striker Stevie May is back among the goals and cannot wait to lock horns with Rangers tomorrow.

The Dons forward ended his eightgame goal drought with a strike in his side’s 3-1 win at Kilmarnock on Sunday.

It was the perfect time to end his wait, with back-to-back games against the Light Blues looming this week.

Aberdeen return to Ibrox for the first time since ending their 26-year wait for a win there in May, and the striker is determined to pile the pressure on the Gers, who have lost their last two matches.

He said: “I’m sure we will look at them prior to the game and identify areas we can punish them and get into them.

“We were really disappointed after the defeat by Motherwell last week but teams around us have also dropped points over the past couple of weeks.

“I wasn’t aware of our record at Ibrox – I wasn’t even born back then. But there is certainly no reason why we can’t go and get a positive result again.

“We will go there looking for the three points. The manager will want us to impose ourselves on the game, so we will be raring to go come Wednesday.”

May insists it was important to get back on the goal trail and he is eager to build on his impressive showing at Rugby Park on Sunday.

He said: “The manager said that I might actually have had a hat-trick because it was my header for our second goal and, also, the one I had ruled out wasn’t offside.

“But the most important thing was just the performance of the team and to get the three points.

“After going close a couple of times, I was just glad to finally put one away and give us a bit more breathing space.

“The manager was saying beforehand not to think too much about it or let the pressure get to me. So, I just wanted to go out and play my game.”
