Denholm is latest injury blow

Arbroath’s injury crisis has deepened with Danny Denholm the latest key player set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 27-year-old, who has netted eight times so far this season for the Red Lichties, had to come off after just 25 minutes of the 2-1 win over former side Forfar in the League 1 Angus derby at Gayfield on Saturday.

The midfielder subsequently had to go to hospital, with boss Dick Campbell now confirming he will miss the next three matches.

The manager said: “It was a good win on Saturday but the shine was taken off it with the injury to Danny.

“He has been great for us this season but it has been confirmed that he has damaged his ankle ligaments and he will be out for the next three weeks which is the last thing we need.”

Campbell was already without Steven Doris – out for the season with a cruciate injury – Josh Skelly (hamstring) and Gavin Swankie for this Saturday’s home game against Stranraer.

The latter has been suffering from a knee injury picked up against Queen’s Park earlier this month, with Campbell now deciding to send the 34-year-old for a second scan.

The manager added: “It looks like he could have nicked a piece of cartilage, which would need an operation to fix it.”
