Victory over Gers a ‘turning point’

Dundee’s Roarie Deacon is hoping that Friday night’s stunning win over Rangers at Dens can be the launch pad to rocket his side up the Premiership table.

The Dark Blues make the long trip to the Highlands to play Ross County on Saturday in buoyant frame of mind after the 2-1 victory over the Ibrox men.

The result secured Dundee’s first three points since September 30, when they beat Hearts and now Deacon is hoping to make it back-to-back wins in Dingwall.

The 26-year-old said: “We needed to get off the bottom of the table because we didn’t deserve to be there.

“We knew that as a team, as a staff and as fans.

“We kept saying it was coming but you have to keep the belief and not get too downhearted.

“With the results we weren’t in a great position but hopefully this (Rangers win) is the turning point. The whole team played with belief, one to 11.”

Deacon added: “Obviously, six games without a win, five losses on the bounce isn’t fantastic but games like Friday are ones where you kind of bring the fans back and put a smile on their faces again.

“Ross County will be a tough game but we are a great team and we showed that on Friday.

“We showed fight, belief, determination, everything – and we need to take that into Saturday.

“The league is very, very tight and a couple of wins in a row with teams around you not picking up maximum points, you can propel yourself up the table.

“We hope to do that in the games coming up.”
