LEICESTER 2 TOTTENHAM 1

Leicester continue to impress under Claude Puel as the Foxes moved into the top 10 in the Premier League with a 2-1 home win against Tottenham.

The usual suspects were on the scoresheet for both sides.

Jamie Vardy gave Leicester an early lead which Riyad Mahrez extended just before half-time.

Both goals were of the highest quality: a first-time volley from Vardy, and a curled left-foot shot into the far top corner for the Algerian.

Harry Kane, who had a loan spell at Leicester as part of his development almost five years ago when the Foxes were in the Championship, pulled a goal back late on. It was his 11th in his last 10 matches against his old club.

Spurs were unable to rescue a point, though, and any chances they had of mounting another title challenge appear over as they could be 16 points behind leaders Manchester City come this time tomorrow.

WATFORD 2 MANCHESTER UNITED 4

Ashley Young struck twice against former club Watford as Manchester United won a thrilling contest at Vicarage Road to close to within five points of Manchester City.

Young’s two sublime goals came in quick succession and included a 25-yard free-kick.

Anthony Martial adding a third as United seemingly wrapped up three points before the interval.

Watford rallied, however, with Troy Deeney pulling one back from the penalty spot before Abdoulaye Doucoure hit home with six minutes left.

A fine solo strike from Jesse Lingard assured United of victory.

WEST BROM 2 NEWCASTLE 2

Newcastle ended a run of four defeats by fighting back for a draw at West Brom.

Jonny Evans’ late own goal earned the visitors a 2-2 draw after Ciaran Clark had begun a second-half revival.

Hal Robson-Kanu and Sam Field put Albion in command at the Hawthorns but their winless run now stretches to 13 games in all competitions.

Alan Pardew is expected to be appointed the Baggies’ new boss and is due to inherit a side two points above the Premier League relegation zone.

Newcastle’s comeback moved them up to 12th.

BRIGHTON 0 CRYSTAL PALACE 0

Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace picked up their first away point of the season with a goalless draw at bitter rivals Brighton.

Roy Hodgson’s bottom-of-the-table Eagles edged a tight contest at a sold-out Amex Stadium but they were unable to make a breakthrough as their search for a first league goal on the road since April continues.
