Learner driver was ‘all over the place’ as he crashed into two cars

-

A learner driver who was “all over the place” crashed into two cars in a Fife village and drove away, Dunfermline Sheriff Court has heard.

Gavin Alexander, 30, of Dovecot Road, Falkirk, admitted that on September 28 in Wardlaw Way, Oakley, he drove a car, despite only having a provisional licence and not being accompanied by a qualified driver.

Alexander had no L plates on his car and did not stop after he collided with two other vehicles.

He then resisted two police officers, lashing out with his legs and struggling violently, in Sir George Bruce Road, Oakley, and failed to provide a blood specimen at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said the accused had turned up at the house of a woman he knew, who described him as being “drunk”.

“They left at 8pm to go to a chip shop,” Ms Yousaf added.

“He was driving and she described him as being ‘all over the place’. He took a corner at excessive speed, scraping along one vehicle and crashing into another.”

The car owners confronted Alexander but he drove off and abandoned his car.

Police found him and he was taken to hospital after claiming to have taken an overdose of Valium and crack cocaine.

Alexander also admitted that on January 17 at Forth Valley Hospital, Larbert, he acted in an aggressive manner and repeatedly made racially offensive remarks and threats of violence, and that on April 30 2014 he failed to comply with the requirements of the sex offenders act.

Sheriff Craig MsSherry imposed an eight-month restriction of liberty order and banned him from driving for 16 months.
