College strikes gold in awards
Fife College has won a gold award and a highly commended at the College Development Network College Awards.
The faculty of engineering was up against various Scottish colleges for the Digital Education Award and the Developing a Regional Curriculum Award.
Winning the former was the perfect end to months of hard work, which included the launch of the state-of-the-art “Immersive Hybrid Reality” lab at the Rosyth campus.
The lab was designed to enhance the training and development of the next generation of offshore wind turbine technicians by combining the real and virtual world and introducing them to a realistic working environment to prepare them for employment.
Nicky Inglis, director of the faculty of engineering, energy and mathematics, said: “It is truly fantastic to have won this award and to have both our department’s and our partners’ hard work recognised throughout the sector.
“This project has enabled us to enhance our standard of teaching and training to ensure our students develop the skills required to meet the needs of the industry.
“It will also help increase their employment opportunities and support the economic needs of the region.”
The awards ceremony, attended by more than 200 guests, was held at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel.
