-

Great Britain Performance Team member Anastasia Vaipan-Law went into second place in the ladies’ junior short programme at the national figure skating championships in Sheffield yesterday.

The Dundee team member posted a personal best of 51.80 points and is just half a point off first.

Sara Keracher kept the PBs coming for Dundee with a score of 33.03 to go into 18th place, while Nikita Heathfield scored 19.14 to see her in 25th.

Coach Simon Briggs said: “Anastasia has had a strong start to the season and has come to the championships having competed in Italy at the Merano Cup a couple of weeks ago, where she put down some of her best performances.

“We are pleased that her form has continued today, and know she will continue to fight heading into the free programme.”

Meanwhile, the advanced novice ladies’ championship concluded with the ladies’ free programme.

Dundee’s Sophie Bole advanced from her overnight position of 13th into 12th with a total competition score of 64.56.

Briggs noted: “Sophie has gained a lot of experience in her first advanced novice ladies’ championship.

“She has been improving on her scores all year and here scored her second-highest overall score to date.

“We look forward to seeing how this young developing skater continues to improve over the coming year.”
