What could be a unique record for Perthshire is the fact that from 300 yards or so of one street in Crieff there are seven men in the army who have won the Military Medal and one the DCM for distinguished services. The area is East High Street, the respective winners of the coveted honours being Sgt. A. Jamieson, Sgt. T. Cuthbert, Cpl. Thomas Thomson, Lance-Cpl. W. Steadman, Sgt. F. Gilbert, Pte. A. Thomson, Cpl. John McKay (killed in action, July 1917) and Sgt. J. Drummond (DCM).

Pygmy Kid is on the run! The Pygmy Kid in question is a sevenmonth old black pygmy goat, which went missing from Camperdown Park Zoo, Dundee. Park foreman David Haig said last night that the goat, about a foot and a half high, was first found to be missing about 8am yesterday. He had been in his normal pen with the zoo’s three other pygmies the night before. It is unlikely the goat just wandered off said Mr Haig. So is the Kid just acting the goat – or has he really been Kid-napped?

A Dundee shoplifter stabbed two shop assistants after they tried to stop him leaving a city centre record store with stolen goods yesterday. The incident happened shortly before 4pm in Murraygate outside the HMV record store as an assistant and a security guard tackled and tried to detain a man they had spotted taking items without paying. The thief drew a knife and stabbed one man in the chest and the other in the thigh. Both were taken to hospital with superficial cuts.

Teacher shortages are damaging the career prospects of Angus pupils, a senior councillor and former head teacher has claimed. Montrose representative David May has been approached by concerned parents about the lack of opportunity in certain subjects. Subject teacher vacancies at secondary schools in Angus have increased from five to eight in the past two months. Angus Council has admitted it is a “challenge” to recruit technologies and computing teachers.
