Hard work at Treaton Park pays off as Hearts go through

CUP ROUND-UP: Weather hits Courier Country clubs’ ties

- PeTer rundo

Scottish Junior Cup Once again the weather severely curtailed the card, with just two of the 10 Courier Country clubs due to be in action actually playing.

It would have been three but for the late call-off of Crossgates Primrose’s tie with Beith after the Humbug Park pitch passed an initial early morning inspection.

Fife clubs participated in the two ties involving local clubs that did go ahead, with Kennoway Star Hearts going through while Lochore Welfare earned a replay. That, and all the other seven outstanding ties, go ahead next Saturday, weather permitting.

All the hard work to get Treaton Park playable was rewarded as Kennoway brushed aside Blantyre Vics with a 4-0 victory.

An own goal set Hearts on the way to success, with Nathan Doig doubling the lead.

A late Kieran Brand brace was the icing on the cake.

Lochore Welfare had to come from behind to earn a replay in their tie with Forth at Carluke.

James Adam gave Andy Healy’s side the lead after 21 minutes.

Barry McGeechan levelled for the hosts before the break.

Despite being reduced to 10 men by Jason Corbett’s straight red card, Ryan Connelly gave Wanderers the lead.

Joe Kinnonmonth equalised 20 minutes from time, and would have won it five minutes later but for a great save by the keeper. GA Engineering Cup Tayport gained almost complete revenge for last season’s final defeat by ousting holders Broughty Athletic – to whom they lost 5-1 in the final – 4-1 at the Canniepairt.

It was Port’s clinical finishing – in particular that of hat-trick hero Alan Tulleth – that told.

He opened the scoring after 17 minutes, with Dale Reid notching the second midway through the first half.

Five minutes later, Tulleth’s fine finish made it three.

The Fed managed to pull one back on 39 minutes when Kevin Milne powered in a header.

The dismissal of Ryan Blair ended any Fed hopes of rescuing the tie.

Three minutes into injury-time, Tulleth completed his hat-trick for this side’s fourth.
