Sentence deferred on man who admitted assaulting ex-partner

-

A man has admitted a catalogue of domestic abuse against his former partner.

Jamie Corstorphine, 42, met the woman when he was a patient at Stratheden Hospital and she was a nurse, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard.

Corstorphine, now of Henderson Street, Edinburgh, admitted assaulting the woman between May 1 and August 31 2009 in Balbirnie Avenue, Markinch by spitting on her face. He also admitted assaulting her in Tummel Road, Glenrothes, between January 1 and December 31 2010 by threatening violence, entering her home uninvited, pushing her against stairs, pinning her there and brandishing a baseball bat.

He pleaded guilty to assaulting her by seizing her hair, dragging her out of bed, spitting on her face and brandishing a knife between March 1 and September 30 2010 and assaulting her by seizing her by the hair and beck, pushing her to the ground, holding her face against the floor and slapping her face, both in Tummel Road, between June 1-30 2010.

Depute fiscal Claire Bremner said the couple had met in 2008. After the violent incidents, she said the assaults stopped and the couple married in 2012. However, they split up last year and the past offences were reported to the police.

Defence solicitor David Bell said the relationship between a nurse and patient was “not something that’s allowed”.

“He says he thinks she had to go to a tribunal and she was supposed to discontinue the relationship but that didn’t happen,” he added.

Sentenced was deferred for reports.
