Vandals plague town charity

-

A Kirkcaldy charity has spoken out after its premises were targeted by vandals for the second time in three weeks.

Fife Society for the Blind branded the culprits “mindless” and questioned why anyone would want to target it deliberately.

The damage to the charity’s sensory impairment centre at Wilson Avenue has left staff dismayed and the organisation counting the cost.

In total, five windows have now been smashed in the two attacks, with repairs likely to cost the charity a four-figure sum.

The society’s chief executive Carl Hodson said: “We are all upset that, for a second time, it appears that these young people think it is OK to break windows in our building.

“That’s five in total that have had to be replaced. It is obvious from that branding that this is a charity’s office.

“Every penny we raise goes to helping people with sight impairment and repairing vandalised windows wasn’t in our budget.

“That may mean nothing to the vandals but for us, it’s money being spent that we don’t have and it has to come from elsewhere.”

Mr Hodson said the attack had been caught on CCTV and warned anyone thinking of targeting the charity again in the future to “think again”.

“We will press charges against anyone caught damaging the building in any way,” he said.
