Added incentive as Brechin seek to make some points

-

Brechin City manager Darren Dods is aiming to take advantage of Falkirk’s lack of action today to draw within three points of the Bairns before the sides meet next weekend.

Paul Hartley’s team received word of their game at Inverness being called off yesterday afternoon.

The covers are down at Glebe Park but Dods is optimistic that their own fixture against promotion hopefuls St Mirren will go ahead.

And the incentive for the bottom of the Championship side is an obvious one.

“If we win tomorrow we can close the gap to three points,” Dods said.

“The covers have been down for a while and the pitch looks fine just now. As long as the temperatures don’t drop below minus four, it should be OK.

“Being a part-time team, we’d obviously prefer it to go ahead on a Saturday.”

Brechin have yet to post a win in the league but there have been several near things at Glebe Park – draws against Dundee United and Falkirk among them.

“It’s one of the smaller pitches in the league,” he said. “And it can make a difference when players are used to playing on wider parks. Fitness levels of full-time players can be a factor on the bigger pitches.

“Hopefully we can make home advantage count tomorrow.

“St Mirren will be determined to get back to the top of the league, but we played well against them in Paisley and only lost to a late goal.

“Our last home game was a good one against Dundee United.”

Andy Jackson came through his 10-minute substitute appearance against Morton last weekend and is expected to get a longer run-out today.

Ally Love returns, but Connor McLennan is a doubt with an ankle injury.
