Smith is looking for Raith’s Sunday best

-

Raith boss Barry Smith is looking for his side to be at their Sunday best when they play Airdrie at the Excelsior Stadium tomorrow.

The League 1 game will kick-off at 4.10pm and be shown live on BBC Alba.

Smith’s men are looking to make it three wins in a row to keep pressure on Ayr United at the top of the table.

Raith won again last week against Alloa at home thanks to two goals from Greig Spence and Liam Buchanan, with the latter hitting the back of the net after a barren run of nine matches.

The manager said: “It was a great result last week and a really good performance from the lads.

“Alloa came out and went toe to toe with us, which we really haven’t had much this season at Stark’s Park.

“Every side is entitled to come and play the way they want and I respect that.

“But the last team who came and had a real go against us at home was probably Arbroath, so it was good to have an open game of football against Alloa.

“As I said, we scored two good goals and I was particularly pleased for Liam getting on the scoresheet again.

“He hadn’t netted for a while but I just kept saying to him all his hard work would pay off, and it did.”

Smith added: “We are still struggling though, with injuries, with Kyle Benedictus, Kevin McHattie and John Herron all out for the game at Airdrie.

“Iain Davidson and Bobby Barr have made themselves available again despite not being 100%.

“They did that last week as well, which shows we are all in this together.

“They understand how short we are and the fact they are willing to do that is excellent from a team perspective.

“We will certainly need another good team performance at Airdrie.

“They have been a bit up and down this season . . .”
