Injuries leave Arbroath boss much to ponder for trip to Albion Rovers

Arbroath boss Dick Campbell has revealed he will be making a late team selection as he assesses his injuryravaged squad ahead of today’s visit to Albion Rovers.

The Red Lichties manager has not had his troubles to seek in recent weeks, with a host of players missing.

Having decided at the start of the season to opt for quality rather than quantity, Campbell has found his options severely restricted because of the number of players on the treatment table.

However, after last week’s 2-1 home defeat to Stranraer, he is determined his side will return to winning ways and further cement their place in third in the League 1 table when they travel to Cliftonhill.

Campbell said: “I certainly have plenty to think about regarding my team selection for the Albion Rovers game.

“I was obviously disappointed with the result last week, but we continue to be severely hampered with injuries.

“Steven Doris and Josh Skelly are obviously out long-term, while Danny Denholm and Scott Martin are also not fit for this weekend.

“Gavin Swankie is still struggling with a niggle, so we are really short again.

“I decided at the start of the season to go with a relatively small pool but one packed with quality.

“However, because of all the injuries, I will look to bolster my squad and I will definitely be trying to add a striker with Doris and Skelly out.

“I said after last week’s defeat to Stranraer that it was back to the drawing board but I meant that in terms of because of the amount of injuries we had.

“However, prior to the Stranraer game, we had won our previous three matches.

“Also, if someone had said to me at the start of the season that come December we would be sitting in third place in the table behind the two full-time teams, I would have taken that.

“So we will go to Albion Rovers determined to get back to twinning ways. They beat us 4-1 the last time we played them at Gayfield so we know how tough a task it will be.”

Today’s game is subject to a 10am pitch inspection.
