Saturday’s game was a big test of Dundee United’s title credentials – and it was one they passed with flying colours.

Prior to the Tangerines’ visit, Jim Duffy’s side were unbeaten in their last three games, netting eight times in the process.

The Greenock outfit were also determined to haul themselves up into promotion playoff contention once more.

However, United were well-deserved winners in the end thanks to Billy King’s two goals.

With second-placed St Mirren beating Brechin at the same time, the Cappielow victory took on even greater importance with the Tangerines retaining their place at the top of the Championship table.

There was plenty of pleasing football on display from Csaba Laszlo’s side, particularly in the build-up to King’s cracking first goal.

United, though, probably should have been ahead before that 61st-minute strike with the manager saying: “In the first half we created two or three chances but again we didn’t score and for me this is our biggest problem.”

There were certainly occasions when you were expecting a player in tangerine to pull the trigger only for him to opt for another pass.

However, with manager and players acknowledging that might be a cause for concern, it is something which will be worked on in training ahead of another testing trip to face a Queen of the South side whose tails will be up after their 5-2 thrashing of Dunfermline at East End Park on Saturday.
