A Kirkcaldy pensioner was badly shaken after two young thugs robbed her in broad daylight.

The 76-year-old victim, who did not want to be named, was pushed and had her handbag taken in the Maple Street incident.

She was uninjured and only had £10 in her handbag at the time, although it did contain bank cards and house keys among other belongings.

The woman is recovering at home after the attack, which took place at around 2.45pm on Monday.

“Never in 100 years did I think anything like that would happen to me,” she said.

“I can’t really get over it, to be quite honest.

“I’m from quite a big family and we’ve never had hassle like that before.

“I’ve probably walked those streets hundreds of times at night and nothing’s happened, but this was in broad daylight.

“It just shows you the lengths some people go to for money. All for a tenner.”

The bag snatch comes just weeks after a Fife charity was singled out by vandals on two separate occasions, while nearby Wilson Avenue also became a no-go area for buses after windows were repeatedly smashed by youngsters.

The victim on this occasion had paused for a moment by a wall on Maple Street, having made her way along Adamson Avenue, and saw the two youths walking in the area.

They are described as being between 16 and 20, and were wearing grey hooded tops and jeans.

“I moved on to go to Laurel (Crescent) and I was turning around the corner when one of them walked in front of me,” the woman added.

“The next thing I knew he pulled the bag out my hand and almost took my arm with it.

“I shouted at him to give me my bag back and then I just started to run after him.

“I probably should have got a medal for that at my age, but I didn’t want to let him get away with it.

“I eventually went along to my sister’s to tell her about what happened and then we phoned the police.

“I don’t put a lot in my bag. It wasn’t really the bag or the money I was worried about; it was my door keys, but I got the locks changed.”

Police Scotland are investigating, and anyone with information can contact 101.
