Leitch-Smith still hoping he can make big Dens impact

DUNDEE: Striker keen on staying with Dark Blues as he eyes Moussa partnership

Dundee’s on-loan striker A-Jay LeitchSmith hopes he is given time to build a profitable partnership with fellow front man Sofien Moussa.

The Englishman was farmed out by parent club Shrewsbury Town to the Dark Blues on August 31 and so far he has netted four times in 14 appearances.

His deal at Dens runs until the end of next month but Leitch-Smith admits he would be open to staying longer.

He more than played his part for Neil McCann’s side in the comfortable victory over Partick on Saturday, linking up well with Moussa, who scored two of his side’s three goals from the penalty spot.

Leitch-Smith said: “We played together when we beat St Johnstone in my first start.

“I thought we combined well then and we did again against Partick.

“You need time to get an understanding but he’s a big strong lad and I enjoy playing up front with him.

“He’s mobile as well and can run in behind – he is good to play with.”

Leitch-Smith added: “I haven’t spoken to the manager about my loan but it does run until the end of January so there is time to get something sorted out.

“Hopefully, we can do that in the next couple of weeks and I’ll be happy if I can stay here.”

Dundee’s win over Partick lifted them up to 10th in the Premiership table but Leitch-Smith insists the Dark Blues should be higher as they have not received the rightful rewards some of their performances have deserved.

He said: “We have been down the table but I believe we have not picked up the points we should have because a lot of the time, the performances have been good.

“Even when results weren’t going our way, we always believed we would turn things around.

“There are good players here and the way we’ve played we always felt the results would come. Now we have to play like Saturday week in, week out.”
