In Ceres Parish Church the wedding took place of Mr Wm Gray, farmer, Ballantage­r, Ladybank, and Miss Cathie D. Lawson, youngest daughter of the late John Lawson, Catherine Bank and formerly of Falkland Wood Farm. The minister of Ceres, the Rev Geo. W. Walker, and the parish minister of Monimail were the officiatin­g clergymen. The bride looked charming in a gown of ivory satin and ninon, trimmed with pearl and bead embroidery and wearing a tulle veil.

50 years ago

About £7,000 was taken in a wellplanne­d bank snatch in Brechin. After coshing one bank employee and hitting a girl member of the staff across the face, the thief blocked pursuit by setting fire to petrol from a drum he had placed in Lindsay Lane. The snatch took place outside the British Linen Bank’s premises in Clerk Street, which is connected to Market Street where the thief had left a stolen getaway car by the lane. The manager, Stanley Taylor, called the police and a doctor.

A helicopter-backed mountain rescue drama ended happily yesterday when a Perth hill-walker was winched to safety from the sub-zero slopes above snow-clad Glenshee. Back home in Strathtay Road, after his night ordeal, 41-year-old joiner Victor Kurius paid tribute to the rescue teams and the helicopter and said he probably owed his life to their efforts as well as substantia­l personal investment in the best available equipment. He became lost as darkness fell on the slopes.

Dundee FC has pulled out of plans to create a £21 million sports performanc­e centre in Caird Park. The Dens Park side were to have worked with Dundee City Council to develop the regional sports performanc­e centre. Council leader Ken Guild said the centre will still go ahead. He stated: “The football club withdrawin­g its interest gives us an opportunit­y to take another look at the site and see if there is another way to lay out the facilities that we want to have there in a more efficient way.”
