Police investigate after 20-year-old man dies in Perth crash
A man has died following a collision between a motorcycle and a bin lorry.
Emergency services were called to Dunkeld Road, Perth, shortly after 8.30am yesterday.
The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident involved a motorcycle, believed to be a white Kawasaki, and a lorry owned by the Binn Group.
Local man Tom Devers came across the scene shortly after the collision.
He said: “I was coming into Perth on the bus at around 8.45am. As it got to the bridge the driver stopped and said he couldn’t go down Dunkeld Road, so I got off and walked.
“I saw them working on the boy – then the trauma team arrived. They pronounced him dead at about 9.10am.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm that, sadly, a 20-year-old man who was involved in the serious road traffic collision on Dunkeld Road, Perth, has died.
“His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them.
“Dunkeld Road remains closed to allow investigation into the incident to take place, and will remain so for some time.”
Jim Brown, a director at Binn Group, said the firm was cooperating with police inquiries.
He said: “Our first thoughts are with the young man’s family and friends and we offer our heartfelt sympathies to them. It is a terrible thing to happen.
“At the moment the matter is in the hands of the police and we are working with them.
“All our vehicles have front and rear-facing cameras and we have handed over the footage from the vehicle.
“We will also be offering our driver any support he may need.”
The road between St Catherine’s retail park and the local branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland was closed for most of the morning to allow investigations to be carried out.
The closure caused traffic delays until the road reopened shortly before 11.30am.
