Police target retail park crime
Police in Fife have launched an initiative aimed at preventing crime at Leven’s Riverside Retail Park.
The project will see officers hold monthly meetings with all retailers to discuss ongoing issues, share ideas and offer preventative advice.
A Police Scotland mobile CCTV van will be deployed and Police Scotland signs and stickers will be placed across the retail area and within windows.
Officers will also be conducting regular foot patrols in the area and there will be more sharing of information between retailers and with police.
Extra training will be offered to staff within the retail park to prevent further retail crime.
Officers intend to extend the partnership to other towns across north-east Fife if the Riverside scheme proves successful.
Sergeant Paul Gillespie, of Levenmouth Police Station, said: “Shoplifting may seem like a victimless crime, however it can result in millions in lost revenue and potentially cost jobs.
“This is a particular issue during both the run up to Christmas and during the postChristmas sales.
“We are eager to tackle this problem and with this in mind we have launched this initiative along with our retail partners at Riverside.
“I look forward to working with retailers in order to fully combat this issue.”
