Dundee United chiefs have hauled a first-team player in for talks after footage emerged of him dancing and drinking from a pint glass while driving.

The video shows left-back Jamie Robson sipping on a unknown lime green drink while taking both hands off the wheel and singing into the camera.

The 45-second clip, which appears to be a mobile phone video of a Snapchat account, has been viewed more than 210,000 times since it was first posted on Christmas Eve.

A Dundee United spokesman confirmed the club have spoken to the player and are satisfied the liquid in the glass was non-alcoholic.

However, some viewers have posed questions over the nature of the 20-yearold’s driving and whether he put other road users and pedestrians at risk.

Robson is understood to have been taking his friends home from a night out when the video was taken.

He has since been called into meetings with both manager Csaba László and club general manager David Southern.

No further action is to be taken by the club over the footage – however, a female social media user who posted it online, a purported acquaintance of Robson, claimed she had received messages from other United players offering her money to delete it.

In a further post, she said she had been threatened with violence if she did not remove the video from Twitter.

The club said they were unaware of these subsequent claims and would be making no further comment at this time.

Robson, who attended Blairgowrie High School and grew up in Perth, came through the youth ranks with United’s city rivals and Rangers before making his first team debut in September 2015.

He spent 2016 on loan at Brechin City, making six appearances and scoring two goals.

Since returning to Tannadice in May 2016, Robson has gone on to be one of the club’s most exciting young prospects, making 21 appearances as United narrowly missed out on promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said she was unaware of any ongoing investigation into the footage.
