The CES will shape the technology agenda for the year ahead. The annual trade show, now in its 51st year, plays host to some of the tech industry’s biggest names, all unveiling products and plans for the coming year.

Sony, Samsung and Ford will be among the corporatio­ns demonstrat­ing new devices, but what are the biggest trends of the show likely to be?

Artificial Intelligen­ce the smart home:

CES 2018 is expected to be full of new smart speakers and other household appliances that are compatible with popular voice assistants, with both the big corporatio­ns and start-ups looking to embrace the technology. Augmented reality: Analysts are predicting a big year for mixed reality, powered by the technology’s championin­g by Apple in recent months, notably through the iPhone maker’s ARKit to help developers build AR apps for the iPhone. Driverless cars: Ford and Nissan are among those who will be demonstrat­ing driverless car technology during the show, while more traditiona­l tech firms such as Intel are expected to showcase their own driving aids and autonomous programmes. TVs: Sony, Samsung, LG and Panasonic are among the big names expected to announce new additions to their TV lineups. LG appears to have set the bar before the show begins, with the firm ready to show off an 88in 8K resolution OLED display, which would be the largest and highest resolution panel of its type to date. and
