Goal hero Milne loving life with Gable Endies

ANNAN 0 MONTROSE 1

Lewis Milne is hoping his move to Montrose will bring out the best in him after his stunning debut winner helped the League Two leaders get back on track following a couple of disappointing results.

The midfielder helped Forfar to promotion last season but after a spell in Australia he returned to the Loons in November to find that things just weren’t the same at the foot of League One.

The 23-year-old decided to make the short hop to Links Park last week in an effort to rediscover his mojo under Stewart Petrie.

Early signs are that the move will be a good one for both club and player after Milne’s sensational 25-yard strike edged a tight match with an Annan side who had been unbeaten in their previous nine matches.

He said: “I wasn’t really enjoying my time at Forfar. I needed a change to start enjoying my football again.

“I’ve got a couple of mates at Montrose and they’ve been telling me how good the training and the team spirit is. Stewart Petrie phoned me and told me a bit more about the club, so I thought I’d give it a try.

“This first week at Montrose has been a breath of fresh air.”

Milne hit 10 goals for Forfar last term but admits none were as good as his 39th-minute strike at Galabank.

He said: “I scored a couple of goals similar to that last season but I think this was probably the pick of the bunch. I knew I had caught it sweet and it just dipped nicely at the last minute.

“I was over the moon when it went in. Hopefully there are many more to come.”

Montrose boss Petrie was thrilled to see his team return to winning ways after a 6-2 defeat by title rivals Peterhead was followed by a draw with basement side Cowdenbeath.

“He said: “In the first half we were back to the type of form we’ve been showing for much of the season and should have been more than a goal up.

“The second half was a bit more difficult but we coped well.”
