Bollan hopes for new faces after losing to City

COWDENBEATH 0 EDINBURGH CITY 2

Cowdenbeath are now five points behind second bottom Clyde in Ladbrokes League Two after losing the big six-pointer with Edinburgh City.

Two goals in a four-minute spell were what turned the game City’s way and gave them their second win in four days.

Cowdenbeath had started the far better side, enjoyed plenty of possession and Cammy Muirhead and Brad Smith should have put them ahead before the opening goal came from City’s Scott Shepherd in 37 minutes, when a cross was not dealt with and the forward fired home from close in.

Four minutes later a long freekick from Ashley Grimes was not cleared and former Cowden captain Pat Scullion fired home number two.

The second period saw Cowden have more than 60% of the ball but never really look like scoring, although Jack Whittaker was only denied by a superb Shaun Harrison tackle.

Blue Brazil manager Gary Bollan is hoping to bring in a couple of new players this week as he eyes a move off the foot of the table.

He said: “To be honest we gave away two very bad goals by switching off at balls getting fired into our box.

“Both the Edinburgh goals came from us not getting first to second balls and that is something we have to sort out.”

Without suspended Robbie Buchanan and Blair Malcolm – ruled out with a hamstring injury – Cowden lacked the sharpness of previous games.

Bollan added: “We knew that Robbie would be someone we would miss for he has scored three goals in five games and to lose Blair was an equally big blow.

“His pace and strength in midfield has been a feature of our play since he joined”.

Bollan hopes to bring in at least one or two players before this week’s trip to Elgin.

He said: “We have our eyes on two or three guys who we feel could help our cause. I hope to have at least one in for the trip north.”
