Morag champions the cause and urges others to take on challenge

-

A Fife resident is fronting a British Heart Foundation (BHF) campaign to promote the charity’s calendar of challenge events that help fund lifesaving research into heart disease.

Morag Whyte, 46, from Tayport, is supporting the initiative after being one of 50,000 people to sign up for a challenge – helping raise £9 million – for the BHF last year.

She successfully completed the charity’s Glasgow to Edinburgh Trek with two friends in memory of her friend Fiona Wardrop’s husband Forbes, who died in Canada after a cardiac arrest in 2015.

The 100km walk is one of more than 70 BHF events taking place across the UK this year, including runs, treks, swims and cycle rides.

As a BHF champion, Morag is now encouraging others to take up the mantle.

She said: “I felt useless stuck in Scotland millions of miles away from my best friend, so taking part in a BHF trek was my way to help fund research to help make sure other families don’t have to go through the same tragedy.

“The sense of achievement afterwards was a feeling I’ve never experienced before and to know we are helping fund the BHF’s research was a privilege.”

The 2018 Glasgow to Edinburgh Trek will take place on July 21 and 22. To find out more about BHF events, visit bhf.org.uk
