Drunk man fined for shouting racist abuse at shop owner

-

A Fife man who drank a bottle of Buckfast then shouted racial abuse at a shop owner has been fined.

Reece Dorsett, 24, of Ochil View, Lumphinnans, was drunk when he caused a disturbance after being told he was barred from the shop.

His antics were branded “a disgrace” when he appeared previously at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

Dorsett admitted that on June 27 at Key Stores, Main Street, Lumphinnans, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by refusing to leave the premises when requested to do so by a member of staff and that he shouted, swore, behaved in an aggressive manner and made racist remarks.

The court previously heard the shop owner had seen Dorsett come into the store at around 2pm and recognised him as someone he had previously banned from the shop.

Dorsett told the shop owner he had to serve him as it was inconvenient for him having to walk to other shops in the area.

After being told he was not being served, Dorsett started shouting: “You can’t do this, this is my country. Get back to your own country.”

Police were contacted and later traced Dorsett. He told them he had downed a bottle of Buckfast too quickly and was feeling sick when he went to the shop.

Defence solicitor James Moncrieff explained: “He was under the influence of alcohol. He felt unwell and wanted to purchase a bottle of water.”

When calling for reports last month, Sheriff Derek Reekie told Dorsett: “This behaviour was a disgrace.”

Dorsett was fined £350 by Sheriff Craig McSherry.
