SCOTLAND’S FLYING START Scotland made a great start to the EuroHockey Indoor Championship III in Nicosia, defeating hosts Cyprus 13-1, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.

Captain Gavin Byers (Grove Menzieshill) scored once, with Jamie Carnegie (Menzieshill) and Fergus Sandison (Dundee Wanderers) scoring twice.

They followed it up with a 14-0 win over Greece.

Scotland play Slovakia and Belarus today and Slovenia and Wales tomorrow.

The Scots are well placed to challenge for promotion.
