Hotel of the Fortnight

-

G & V Royal Mile Hotel Edinburgh. I love how the new owners have seamlessly taken over this hotel, which was created by the famous Missoni brand. This luxury bolthole in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town remains super-stylish. I love that the rooms are quirky too. Our suite had lots of wee Edinburgh touches and, brilliantly, had a pull-down cinema screen that my girls loved. Make sure to book a room on the upper floors with a view of the city skyline. Their Cucina Italian restaurant, meanwhile, is well worth staying in for, as is their newly revamped bar. www.quorvuscollection.com

Travel tip

I am a big fan of what the Scotch Malt Whisky Society does with its own mysterious malt bottlings. Intriguingly, you never now exactly what you are drinking, as the bottles only have numbers and no named distillery or age. You can try their unique drams at their traditional haunt down in Leith or up in their more modern oasis in the New Town, on Queen Street. In the latter, the new Kaleidoscope whisky bar tempts alongside the superb Dining Room. I recommend becoming a member, too, to snare some of those unique bottlings. www.smws.com.
