Actress and singer Hilary Duff may be used to the sights of Hollywood and Los Angeles – but she was more than impressed during a visit to Fife.

The Lizzie McGuire and Younger star was at Dunfermline Abbey and posted a photograph on social media of the palace ruins with the words “pictures don’t quite do this justice”.

Her presence in the town on Friday caused quite a stir and prompted a flurry of offers from locals, including a steak bridie at the Pars game on Saturday, a Tennents and a chippy along the coast in Anstruther.

She was also encouraged to sample the town’s nightlife by visiting nearby club Life.

Duff, 30, is understood to have been at the abbey to film a segment for the American version of the television show, Who Do You Think You Are? which traces celebrities’ ancestors.

Dunfermline MP Douglas Chapman was among those to reply to her tweet, showing her another scenic photograph of the historic town.

Dunfermline Athletic invited her to East End Park to see them in action against Dundee United, posting: “Seeing as you’re in town @HilaryDuff feel free to take in tomorrow’s game at East End Park on us! Your name is on the list!”

Locals and fans of Duff, who was also spotted in Edinburgh, were excited to hear she was in town.

Jason Barber replied to her post: “You have a fine taste in locations! Welcome to Dunfermline.”

Kellytosh 108 invited Duff to join her and a friend on the Elie Chain Walk and added: “We’ll treat you to a famous Anstruther Chippy?!”

Duff became a teen idol when she was cast in the title role of the Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire and went on to star in a series of films, including Agent Cody Banks and Cheaper by the Dozen and has released several albums.

She also stars in the American comedy drama series Younger.
