Disruption as loch road closes
Part of a busy road between Kinghorn and Burntisland will close today for up to three months.
Residents have been warned of severe disruption for motorists and heavy traffic through Kinghorn as a result of shutting part of the B923, known as the loch road, at Kinghorn.
A campaign to prevent the closure by housebuilder Lovell Homes failed as Fife Council claimed it had no power to prevent it.
Traffic will be diverted via the A921 through the centre of Kinghorn and along Kinghorn Road, in Burntisland.
Lovell Homes is building 133 homes near Kinghorn Loch and said the closure is required for the safety of workers during installation of a sewer.
It initially intended to shut the road for six months and said it had explored all alternatives.
The council said it was unaware of the need for a full road closure when the planning application was submitted.
The Ecology Centre issued a reminder that businesses near the loch remain open.
It posted: “The Ecology Centre will be open as usual but if you are travelling from Burntisland please allow extra time.
“We would remind all visitors that we and all businesses around Kinghorn Loch are still open and can be accessed via Kinghorn.
“We’ll continue to press, with the support of local representatives, for the speedy conclusion of these lengthy and disruptive works.”
