“The photograph on the right shows my primary 7 class at Ancrum Road taken in 1965,” emails Ian Wallace. “We are now all 65 years of age

“The 11 plus exam was still active so we we went to either Harris Academy, Logie Secondary or Dudhope depending on the results from that exam. The results were given out in the classroom.

“Some were disappointed in not getting to Harris so were given places at Logie. I felt that was unfair as some ‘failures’ were clearly good enough for Harris and joined us at the end of the third year.

“I had been a pupil of Invergowrie Primary prior to moving back to Dundee so met all of my Invergowrie class again at Harris.

“They were happy days at Ancrum Road with James Cameron as head teacher. He very much supported school football. I was fortunate enough to play for the school team.

“We were driven around Dundee by Mr Cameron and his deputy Mr Robertson to play other schools as the team piled into the two cars.

“I was taken to parts of Dundee I would have otherwise not visited such as Douglas and Fintry. There is still a school football trophy – the James Cameron cup – named after him.

“I am standing on the back row 5th from the left with the famous Bobby Laird on my left. He was an exceptional swimmer in those days who came close to Olympic standard.”
