Gowfers beat rivals Fed with dominant display

Super league: Dignan and McCabe on the mark in big win for Carnoustie

- Mark Johnson

Carnoustie Panmure regained the bragging rights over neighbours Broughty Athletic at Whitton Park on Saturday.

When the sides met earlier in the season at Carnoustie, Broughty ran out 6-2 winners, However, it was a different story as Alan McSkimming’s Gowfers dominated their hosts in this Super League clash and fully deserved their 2-0 win.

Carnoustie took the lead a minute before the break when a fine passing move was completed by former B rough ty striker Ryan Dignan slotting the ball home at the back post.

The visitors doubled their advantage on the hour when Dignan fed the ball back to Jamie McCabe, who smashed the ball past John Sinclair.

Bonnyrigg Rose romped to victory over Jeanfield Swifts at New Dundas Park, inflicting a heavy 6-0 defeat on Ross Gunnion’s side.

Scott Gray put Rose in front after just two minutes and Wayne McIntosh made it two on 25 minutes. Lee Currie hit a trademark 30-yard free-kick after 22 minutes before Dean Brett made it 4-0 five minutes before the break.

Substitute Kieran McGachie scored Bonnyrigg’s fifth on 66 minutes before Brett completed the rout with his second – and his side’s sixth – 10 minutes before time.

Dundonald Bluebell were another side on the end of a heavy defeat as they went down 4-0 at home to a resurgent Broxburn side.

The visitors had been inconsistent under Max Christie but since Brian McNaughton took over the Albyn Park side have looked a different side altogether.

McNaughton’s men took the game to Bluebell from the off and fully deserved their win.

Kieran Anderson scored twice with Zander Miller and Gordon Donaldson scoring the other two for the Lothian side.

Lochee United had to come from behind to beat Hill of Beath Hawthorn at Keirs Park in a pulsating encounter.

Aaron Hay gave the Haws the lead after 20 minutes and the Fife side led at the break – but that all changed within five minutes of half-time.

Connor Birse scored on 46 and 49 minutes to put United in front. Daniel Watt pulled the home side level with 15 minutes to go but Birse completed his hat-trick and took the points with the winner on 83 minutes.

If you score five goals away from home you have the right to expect all three points – however, that wasn’t the case at Prestonfield where Kennoway, despite leading four times against Linlithgow Rose, had to settle for a point in an incredible game.

Hearts took the lead after 10 minutes through Liam Rolland but Tommy Coyne equalised on 24 minutes.

Parity lasted just 60 seconds before Chris Gay restored the visitors lead.

Colin Strickland hit Linlithgow’s second equaliser only for Lee Bryce to score a third for Kennoway after halftime.

Rolland gave his side a two-goal cushion on the hour-mark.

Gary Thom pulled one back for Linlithgow on 74 minutes before Ruari Maclennan levelled it up at 4-4.

Matty Gay looked to have won it for Kennoway in the 90th minute only for Strickland to make it 5-5 in stoppage time.

Mc Bookie. com East Premier League Haddington came from behind at Glenrothes to take advantage of the teams around them failing to win.

A Gary Pearson own goal saw the visitors take the lead at Warout until Scott Napier and Jamie Leslie put Glenrothes in front with goals two minutes apart.

Haddington were level three minutes later through Frazer Patterson and Gavin Brown then hit what proved to be the winner.

Kirrie Thistle were one of the sides to do Haddington a favour as they, somewhat surprisingly, beat leaders Musselburgh at home. Alan Cruikshank got the all important goal that gave the Angus side the points with seven minutes remaining.

St Andrews United went down 2-0 at home to Blackburn United. Andy McQuillan put the visitors in front on 67 minutes before Brian Ross made sure of the surprise win 10 minutes later.
