Montrose make most of Fleming’s vital saves

-

Montrose maintained their place at the top of League Two but it was not all plain sailing as they were made to battle hard to secure the points at Ainslie Park.

City started the game on top and if not for Allan Fleming in the visitors’ goal they would have been in front.

Fleming twice denied the home men, first tipping a Scott Shepherd strike on to the bar then making a flying save to push an Ashley Grimes effort on to the woodwork.

This set the platform for his men to go on and claim the victory and Fleming was happy with his contribution, saying: “It was very important to get the three points today and stay top of the league.

“We didn’t play the best but it’s all about the results and it’s three points and a clean sheet so we can’t go wrong if we carry on like that.

“The saves? That’s what I’m there to do; it’s a team effort though and Sean Dillon saves the clean sheet as well.

“We are all in this together and we are in it to win it as they say.”

Montrose made the home men pay for their profligacy with a quick-fire double before the break.

First Michael Bolochoweckyj scrambled home from a corner then Lewis Milne poked home in a three-minute spell.

Things could have been even better but Paul Watson saw his penalty well saved just before the half-time whistle.

Stewart Petrie’s men comfortably dealt with everything City had to throw at them in the second half with a Dillon goal-line clearance from a Jesus Garcia Tena header the only moment of worry.

Their cause was made all the easier by a 68th minute red card for City’s Farid El Alagui.
