DUNDEE UNITED: Keeper says fight goes on despite St Mirren’s eight-point lead

Dundee United goalkeeper Harry Lewis insists panic hasn’t yet set in at Tannadice despite falling eight points behind leaders St Mirren.

The second-placed Tangerines steadied the ship with a hard-earned goalless draw at Dunfermline on Saturday, just a week after their humiliating 6-1 loss at Falkirk.

That result at East End Park was rightly seen as a decent one under the circumstances but, with the Buddies winning 2-0 at Dumbarton that same afternoon, the Championship table makes grim reading for United.

Lewis, though, stressed that the fight for the automatic promotion place goes on.

The on-loan Southampton man, who made some fine saves to keep the home team out, said: “It is not good to see them (St Mirren) getting a few more points on us.

“We are still not panicking yet.”

“We know the task in hand,” added Lewis.

“It is time to cut out the complacency and get back to being the Dundee United we know we can be.

“After the Falkirk game we spoke a lot about the next 16 games.

“Now we have 15 left in order to be champions.

“The gap is eight points but this a league where everybody can beat everybody.

“We have a game in hand (against Queen of the South at Palmerston) and St Mirren still have to come to Tannadice.

“I think we will back ourselves at home.

“There are freak results every weekend so we just have to remain calm. “
