Painful return trip for Harris against leaders

-

Harris were the latest side to suffer at the hands of BT Caledonia Division One title favourites Caithness when the Elliot Road men suffered a 90-0 loss away to the long-time pacesetters.

It was a painful return trip for Harris who now sit second bottom in the league, although they will not be the last side to suffer at the hands of the Thurso men who now have a 13-point lead over Strathmore.

The Inchmacoble outfit’s challenge was dented by a 19-14 defeat away to Alloa.

Dunfermline eased to an 88-0 win over bottom side Banff, a result that moved them above Grangemouth Stags in the table.

Stags were beaten 24-22 in a competitive encounter at home to Glenrothes.

The top of Division Two (Midlands) is unchanged after the leading contenders posted bonus point wins.

Hillfoots, the current pacesetters, chalked up a 72-7 win on their travels to face Kinross, while Blairgowrie were even more clinical, breaching the century as they saw off Madras 105-5 in St Andrews.

Carnoustie took all five league points with a 43-19 win over Panmure to remain third, and there were wins for Kirkcaldy seconds who beat Morgan Academy 74-0, and for Falkirk seconds who saw off Stirling Bridgehaugh 35-23.

Division Three (Midlands) is shaping up for an exciting finale with only five points covering the top five sides.

The match between leaders, Howe of Fife seconds, and fellow contenders Crieff & Strathearn was postponed, while a 66-5 win for Rosyth Sharks over Aberfeldy, leaves them in second spot but with the same points total as Howe.

Waid Academy slipped to third after going down 73-10 at home to Dundee University Medics who are five points off the pace.

That group of five have broken away from the pursuing group, which is headed by Arbroath, 34-19 victors over Bannockburn.

Hillfoots seconds beat their Glenrothes counterparts 39-10, while Grangemouth seconds saw off Perthshire seconds 21-18.
