Fife Council finally approves plan for drive-thru McDonald’s
Plans for a new fast food drive-thru restaurant in Leven have finally been approved by Fife Council.
McDonald’s confirmed its intention to create a new branch at the junction of Aitken Street and the B933 Riverside Road more than a year ago, but issues with traffic safety very nearly saw the project shelved.
The original plan was to create a priority junction at the side of the old gas works, but Fife Council insisted on a mini roundabout which was eventually incorporated into the plans.
Local authority planners have now rubber-stamped the application, meaning work is likely to start as soon as possible.
More than 65 jobs are expected to be created in the community, and the firm says it will provide opportunities for skills and training through its internal management training programme.
Leven area convener Ken Caldwell said: “It is a welcome boost to employment and it will continue to mark Levenmouth as a place to do business.
“Fife Council’s investments in Leven are being justly rewarded.”
A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Sufficient parking has been provided at the restaurant with accessible parking located as close to the restaurant entrance as possible.
“McDonald’s actively encourage more sustainable methods of transport which have been detailed in the accompanying transport statement. The design and layout of the proposal is appropriate in the area.
“Natural and neutral colours and materials will be used on the building and throughout the scheme to ensure the site integrates easily with the surroundings.”
