Town’s new library and galleries up for prestigious award
Dunfermline’s new museum is in the running for another top award.
The £12 million Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries, pictured, has been named on the shortlist for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards 2018 in Scotland.
The awards, known as the property Oscars, highlight the talent involved in shaping Scotland’s built environment.
Some of the most innovative projects from across the country, including schemes in Perth, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, have been nominated this year.
The new Dunfermline building, which opened last year, is recognised in the community benefit category.
The cultural hub, which has already won a clutch of awards, has been hailed as a “spectacular addition” to Dunfermline’s heritage quarter, with the potential to raise the cultural profile of the town and attract more visitors.
The category winners will go forward for the Project of the Year title.
Last year Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall won the title after a three-year renovation.
Chairman of the judging panel, Colin Smith, said: “This year we have received some extremely diverse and outstanding projects from all over Scotland.
“Each and every project showcases the exceptional talent behind these buildings of our future.
“The variety of projects highlights the development that is happening right across our nation.”
All category winners will also go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards grand final in November.
