Tayport fight back to keep hopes alive

GA Engineerin­g Cup rd 3 It was a mixed day for Courier Country sides, with four progressin­g and two going out.

Tayport came from behind to beat Aberdeen side Hall Russell United at the Canniepair­t.

After an even first period the visitors took the lead just after the hour through Scott McLeod.

Tayport, who had been lethargic, were stung into action and drew level with 13 minutes to go when Alan Tulleth struck.

Gary Sutherland hit the winner on 89 minutes to save his side’s blushes.

A Sean Fergus double wasn’t enough for Luncarty, losing 3-2 at home to North Region Super League’s Hermes.

Callum Innes, David Stevenson and Philip Cruikshank scored for the visitors.

Dundee East Craigie faced a tricky visit to Culter but won on penalties.

The game ended 3-3 after 90 minutes with Nik Mann, Findlay Baird and James Russell on target for the Shipbulder­s, who won the shoot-out 5-4 to take their place in the quarter-finals.

Forfar West End joined Tayport and East Craigie in the quarter-final draw after a 6-2 win at home to Devronside.

Graeme Hart had a hat-trick, with Jamie Montgomery scoring twice and Danny Cavanagh netting the other.

Just like East Craigie, Kirriemuir Thistle’s clash at Stonehaven went to a penalty shoot-out after the game ended 3-3. Stonehaven ran out 5-4 winners.

Kirrie took the lead through Alan Cruikshank on the half hour but the home side levelled things up.

Cruikshank hit his second on the hour mark only for Stonehaven to equalise a minute later.

The home side went in front for the first time on 73 minutes but Kirrie responded, John Farquharso­n taking the game to spot-kicks with the equaliser on 84 minutes.

Jeanfield Swifts eventually made it past Montrose Roselea in a lacklustre encounter at Riverside Park.

The sides went into the break level at 0-0.

The game opened up in the second half, particular­ly after Roselea were reduced to 10 men when Liam Campbell was sent off.

Rhys Davies, on as a substitute, headed Swifts in front on 63 minutes and Jamie Reid made sure with a second, 10 minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Dundee North End’s game at Dufftown was postponed DJ Laing East Of Scotland Cup rd 2 The tie between Lochore Welfare and Craigroyst­on was postponed. V Tech SMT Fife & Lothians Cup rd 2 Lochgelly Albert went out of the Fife and Lothians Cup, losing 3-0 at Tranent.

Ian Smith put Tranent in front just before half-time.

Ben Smith doubled the advantage with 12 minutes left. Kane Patterson made sure of the Lothian side’s progress with a third goal with 10 minutes to go.
