Young dribblers aiming to net cash for Maggie’s Centre

-

A children’s football team is set to raise hundreds of pounds for Maggie’s cancer charity in honour of the mother of one of their players’ battle against the disease.

Broughty United 2010s are holding a sponsored dribble on March 3 – and have already raised more than £500 for the Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.

Now they are asking the community to help them raise even more ahead of the event next month.

Team secretary Vicki Bell said: “One of the boys’ mums has been battling with cancer over the past year or so and the team have decided to have a sponsored dribble in her honour.

“She was given the all-clear just before Christmas, which is great news. She is an amazing woman and has been a real inspiration to the boys.

“We have decided to do a charity fundraiser to show our support and to try to raise as much money as we can for a very worthwhile cause.

“Her chosen recipient for the fundraising money is the Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.”

Head coach Dominic Dellanzo praised his team’s efforts.

He said: “The boys have been fantastic and have already managed to raise over £500 through our JustGiving page and there’s even more to come from their sponsor sheets that have still to come in.

“They’re all really keen to do their best to help their friend’s mum and the community as a whole.”

The sponsored dribble will take place on the 3G park at Arbroath Road from 9am to 10.30am on Saturday March 3.

A representative of Maggie’s will join the team on the day to cheer the youngsters on and receive the team’s final fundraising cheque.
