Staggies star hopes to drag Saints into relegation dogfight

-

Ross County defender Marcus Fraser is determined to drag Saturday’s opponents St Johnstone into the relegation dogfight with a victory at McDiarmid Park.

The Staggies have given themselves fresh hope in their Premiership survival bid having taken four points from a possible six in their last two games.

With County just two points adrift, Owen Coyle’s men have the opportunity to move off bottom spot with a victory at Perth, provided there is a winner in this weekend’s match between Hamilton Accies and Partick Thistle.

A victory would also heap extra pressure on Tommy Wright’s Perth Saints, who are only six points above the Staggies.

Fraser said: “We have had the attention for a few weeks but we need to keep working hard. We know it is going to turn around but we are the only people who can do that.

“Obviously, the last two games have been positive and we need to carry that on to Saturday.

“The first team above us is Hamilton, who are only a couple of points ahead. But it is so tight, St Johnstone are six points ahead. If we can get a result there it closes everything together.

“But we need to concentrate on ourselves and afterwards we will see from there.

“Saturday for both sides will be a massive game, there is a lot at stake and we will look to impose ourselves on the game and start on the front foot as always and take the three points.”

Coyle freshened up his squad with seven new additions in January and former Celtic player Fraser believes recent results show the competition is getting the best out of the side.

The 23-year-old added: “The new boys have come in and done really well, it is a positive they are settling in quickly. Hopefully, that can continue and the results will come.

“Some of the boys who aren’t in the team or even the bench are really good players. But we are a team, we stick together and want to push in the right direction.”
