Rocket and Wizard through to Welsh Open quarter-finals

-

World number two Ronnie O’Sullivan played some stunning snooker as he made it through to the quarter-finals of the Manxbet Welsh Open in Cardiff.

The ruthless Rocket racked up breaks of 117, 84, 69 and 67 as he saw off the challenge of Mike Dunn 4-0 last night.

Earlier in the day, the five times world champion took only 44 minutes to see off the challenge of David Grace.

The Londoner knocked in a couple of century breaks, 133 and 100.

“Winning is a habit and when you get into a winning habit you can even play bad and win in the end. If my form comes good as well it’s like a double bonus,” O’Sullivan said.

Scot John Higgins is also through to the last eight after he saw off the challenge of England’s Nigel Bond last night.

The 42-year-old Wizard of Wishaw humbled Bond 4-0.

In the afternoon, Higgins eased to a 4-0 victory over Sam Craigie to seal his place in the last 16.

Meanwhile, home favourite Matthew Stevens ended the hopes of Stuart Bingham.

Bingham had defeated world number three Judd Trump in the previous round.

But Stevens was in fine form knocking in breaks of 76 and 79 as he won 4-1.

However, the last Welshman to win the title back in 1999, Mark Williams, is out. He was defeated 4-2 by Martin Gould.
